The Association's goals are to exchange national information of the plant Hippophae rhamnoides (H.r.) and subspecies (common name sea-buckthorn, seaberry, sallowthorn etc) and promote its research and development. The objective is to promote the utilisation of the multipurpose plant H.r. to contribute to the environmental protection, economic development and human health.
The Association is committed to working with the International Sea-buckthorn Association (ISA) and has largely adopted the ISA constitution. UKSA is currently going through formal membership process of the ISA.
UKSA membership is open to bona-fide growers of H.r. and research organisations carrying out work on H.r. The Association will strive to promote quality research - typically post graduate peer reviewed - however UKSA will in some cases - and with requisite qualification - highlight strong anecdotal findings.
Members are expected to adhere to the constitution of UKSA. Members will also be expected work within DEFRA guidance on environment and adhere to breeders rights.
